This wood species is grown in the back yards and road sides all over the sandy coastal areas of Kerala State in India. Though it is a tropical forest timber, it is grown commercially as it has peculiar strength qualities suitable for the fishing industry. This has a greyish white appearance without any other color streaks. All dark colors for printing is suitable.

Nissiwood paperback microthin printable wood sheets are made from a microthin layer of veneer bonded with a layer of transparent paper. The material is available in 2 thicknesses of 250 microns (0.25mm / 0.01”) and 450 microns (0.45mm / 0.018”). It is characterised by the smoothness of the wooden side. Both thicknesses of 250 microns and 450 microns are compatible with many digital printers and can be easily printed even in curved passage. Materials which have a special coating are offered suitable for desk top printing. Its flexibility makes it the ideal material for making many products, and hence it is popularly used to make wooden labels, wooden box covers, wooden brochures, wooden note pads, wooden diary covers and wooden envelopes.
